10 years ago today I made my first appearance on Kiss FM! Kevin Box & I were at the Post Office in Downtown Jonesboro. It was the 2002 Tax Tantrum event, and listeners were allowed to take out their tax frustrations on a beat up car...with a sledgehammer! It was my morning show debut!
Sometimes it's hard to believe that 10 years has gone so fast. Other days it feels like it's been an eternity.
Most of us get so caught up in living life day by day, we forget to reflect on just how lucky we have been. Looking back today I realize that I have been truly blessed by this job.
I have had the chance to do some amazing things...meet some amazing people...work with amazing talents...and help with some amazing causes.
Most people look at a job in radio as simply talking in between songs, and giving tidbits of information. I have always looked at it differently. Sure, I do that, but I wanted to build a relationship with our audience. I wanted to live my life on the radio with the people that invite me into their homes, cars, and offices.
Together over these 10 years I have shared stories of triumph and tragedy. I have shared the highs and the lows of my life. I have shared stories of the loss of loved ones...and I have shared stories about being blessed by a loving wife & son that would do anything in the world for me. I have shared fears, insecurities, and questions about life in general.
Thank you for being there with me through the good and the bad. I know many of you have been along with me for every step of the ride the last 10 years. Those of you that have been there since the beginning, I appreciate that more than you could ever know. Many of you I still talk to on the show on a regular basis, and I love that!
Thank you to Lesley & Kai for putting up with my crazy schedule. I love you both more than you could ever know.
Thank you to Kevin Box, Larry James, & Dave Ashcraft of the old Clear Channel regime. They believed in me long before I ever believed in myself. They hired a former wrestler into a position that could have gone to an experienced radio pro. Thank you for taking the chance on me.
Thank you to Scott Siler & Bobby Caldwell of East Arkansas Broadcasters. They came into the Jonsboro market in 2007 after purchasing our station from Clear Channel. They believed in me from our very first meeting, and have allowed me to continue to grow and provide a wonderful life for Lesley & Kai. I can't thank these two enough. It would have been easy for them to bring in "their own guy," but they took the chance on me. I hope they are happy with that decision.
